藻种中心和比利时根特大学，美国路易斯安那州立大学，加拿大麦吉尔大学合作的论文“Cyst-motile stage relationship, morphology, ultrastructure and molecular phylogeny of the Gymnodinioid dinoflagellate Barrufeta resplendens comb. nov., formerly known as Gyrodinium resplendens, isolated from the Gulf of Mexico”2015年8月7号在藻类学主流刊物Journal of Phycology在线发表。该论文基于形态学、超微结构和分子系统发育的结果，把分离自墨西哥湾的金黄环沟藻重新命名为金黄精灵藻。海洋三所为论文的第一完成单位。
